The trend leans towards speculative fiction but the stories are intentionally diverse. None of the stories have anything remotely to do with boiling eggs, or any other kitchen arts. Rather, it is the egg timer itself that is significant. This is a book for brief moments, short escapes, from the tasks of the day. Sometimes there just isn't time to get back to that great novel, waiting on the arm of your favourite chair.
